To conduct a Community Readiness Assessment, start with the following approach.

Planning & preparation

  1. Clearly identify your issue
Community Readiness Assessments are used to gauge a community’s knowledge of, readiness to act, and success level of a health, social, or community issue. In order for CRAs to be the most effective you should have a clearly defined issue.

Examples of a specific defined issue:
    • Underage Drinking (ages 12-17)
    • Underage drinking (ages 18-20)
    • Binge drinking by youth under the age of 21
    • Binge adult drinking over the age of 21

You can use this worksheet to help identify your issue.
